A weekly, half day (8:45 – 12:30) program

Eligibility: Children ages 3 – 4. (We also accept 5 year olds for the first week of the program).

Jan

The Sprouts program was created in 2010 by Director Mark Taylor’s wife, Jan Goddard-Taylor. Jan has her BS in Counseling Psychology from Lesley University. With their daughter entering preschool, Jan realized the need to create a preschool camp environment offering both Sewataro’s mission and superb facilities to these youngest of campers.

The Sprouts program refines the larger mission of Sewataro to meet the developmental needs of preschoolers. Children are engaged in activities developed to foster collaboration, creativity, team-building, and observation of the natural world around them. Programming is thoughtfully planned with the goal of providing a bridge for preschoolers into their first camp experience.

The outstanding outdoor surroundings combined with specialized camp programming allow children the gift of play and the space to deeply engage with each other and the outdoors. In turn, children develop self-confidence as they flourish with the success and joy found in their first camp venture.

Open House: There is a special Open House for Sprouts campers on Sunday, June 10th from 1:00 – 2:00pm.

2017 Head Counselors

Kristen Drummey Sprouts

Kristen Drummey
Joining us for her first summer at Sewataro (but no stranger to kids or camp), Kristen is looking forward to joining the crew at Sprouts! “My two boys (ages 9 and 7) have been attending Camp Sewataro since 2013, and my older daughter started in 2014. Kate (my Sprout) and I have been hearing about how amazing Sewataro is for years, and have gotten a taste of the magic at Overdays. We can’t wait to participate in all of the fun, especially the swimming, fishing, and camper car wash this year!”

Originally from Fairport, NY, Kristen did her undergraduate degree at Colby College, majoring in Sociology and Economics, and subsequently graduated from Boston College with a PhD in Sociology. Kristen attended many day camps as a child, including Girl Scout camp and various sports camps, and was a resident camp counselor at Cape Cod Sea Camps for two years (where she met her husband in 2002!).

Kristen loves spending her summers outside with her kids – running “Camp Drummey” ;-) – and has always wanted a chance to go back to work as a camp counselor! A self-professed “terrible” juggler, Kristen is nevertheless excited to “entertain” the Sprouts campers and participate in “all of the incredible activities at Camp Sewataro”!

Nicole Heisler

Nicole Heisler
Nicole is back at Sprouts for her 10th Sewataro summer! Our youngest campers will delight in magical adventures, spirit days, trips to the famous “Sewataro Time Machine,” and more. Nicole was our beloved Drama Head for many summers prior to the birth of her daughter, and she is one of our camp’s creative gems. For her “day job,” Nicole is currently a marketing associate at New England Treatment Access, and is writing a comedic book about parenting in her spare time!

Originally from Monessen, Pennsylvania, Nicole now lives in Watertown with her husband Brandon (our former Music Studio Head, Gizmo Emcee and, along with Nicole, Co-Creative Coordinator), and their daughter, Brynlee. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Bethany College, and a Master’s Degree in Theater Education from Emerson College. Nicole enjoys painting, cooking, gardening, writing, and acting, and she ADORES her summers at Camp: “…the combination of being outdoors, the beautiful grounds, the infectious joy of the campers, and the amazing staff…all add up to what are truly my favorite weeks of the year.” :)
