Insect Control

Due to the growing number of diseases related to ticks and mosquitoes, Sewataro has implemented an Insect Control plan.

The property is sprayed two times a year, once in the spring and once in the fall – the two hatching periods for ticks, with bifenthrin.

We also use a garlic spray twice a summer to repel mosquitoes (also a repellent to ticks). This is done the evening prior to each Overnight, as the campers will be on the property the following evening, when mosquitoes are the most active.

We encourage you to apply an insect repellent before each camp day. We are happy to reapply a lotion repellent or wipes (no sprays please) after swimming if you send in a bottle labeled for your child. Sunscreen/insect repellent combo lotions are best for efficiency on our end.

Sunscreen/insect repellent combos containing DEET (10 – 15% for children) are the most effective against mosquitoes and ticks, but there are also many natural repellents containing oils from garlic, rosemary, lemongrass, thyme, geraniol and leaves and stems of the wild tomato plant on the market.
