Dear Friends,

It’s difficult to put into words just how thrilling it is for us when our campers finally arrive. Throughout the school year we plan, we anticipate, and we try to imagine the sights and sounds of campers on the property – singing, cheering, smiling and laughing – and when these dreams finally come to fruition, and the grounds come alive again, it is simply magical. We live for these eight weeks!

2017 Welcome Home

Camp is off to a terrific start. We’ve seen mostly sun and dry weather, and even during Tuesday’s fifth and sixth period downpour, campers and counselors made the most of it as they played games in Rainy Day shelters, even dancing between the rain drops.

2017 Wacky Wheel Wk1

The Wacky Wheel of Wednesday proved to be wacky indeed! (The Wacky Wheel is a Sewataro tradition that occurs just after Wednesday’s morning announcements, and is hosted by the “Wacky Wizard” – a.k.a. CIT Leader Matt. Three counselors (one from each section) are asked a Sewataro-related trivia question, and the counselor with the closest answer wins spin on the Wacky Wheel, as delighted campers and staff typically chant “Cannon! Cannon! Cannon!” (The Sewataro Cannon, a counselor-only tradition, is a whipped cream pie in the face during Closing Exercises.) This week, Fishing counselor Josh won the spin, and the camp erupted in excitement when the wheel landed on “Counselor Choice of Cannon!” Josh chose to give Doug (our beloved Gizmo Master) the Cannon, and on Thursday during Closing Exercises, campers and counselors were treated to the first Sewataro Cannon of the season. All in good fun!

2017 Cannon Brigade

Friday followed a Tuesday’s schedule, so campers wouldn’t miss out on a full day of activities due to the July 4th holiday. And in lieu of a Friday Special Event (which is our “regularly scheduled” Friday afternoon activity), campers were treated to the fifth annual Counselor Lip Sync Contest during a special Grassy Bowl lunch hour. This year’s winner was “The Bees,” a group comprised of Adventure Challenge counselors Catherine (last year’s reigning champ), Anna and Megan, joined by CIT Leader Matt. Other strong performances included twins Adam and Hannah Levine (Riding Assistant and Tribe Assistant respectively), who sang “Bop to the Top” from High School Musical, and Tribe Assistants Ahlea and Lisa, who performed Taylor Swift’s “Love Story.” It was the perfect way to end Week One of the 2017 camp season.

2017 Lip Sync

We’re looking forward to a great Week Two, and as a reminder, camp is OPEN on Monday, July 3rd, and closed on Tuesday the 4th.

Wishing you a terrific weekend, and as always, we thank you for sharing your children with us.

Warmly,

The Taylor Family and all your friends at Sewataro
