Some of you may already know that Monica’s mother, Kay Horgan, passed away last Sunday morning. Mrs. Horgan, as we called her, had a long history with the Taylor family and Camp Sewataro (seen in the staff photo above in the floral dress on the left). She was one of Alba Taylor’s closest friends for more than 50 years. When Alba needed an RN at camp, Mrs. Horgan came on board Sewataro as camp nurse to run the clinic. There she remained for some 15 years as one of the most popular people on staff. Countless number of campers had the pleasure of Mrs. Horgan’s inimitable kindness and reassuring smile as a healing salve to life’s bumps, bruises, stings, and itches. Through the thousands of cuts cleaned, band-aids applied, and assurances given, Mrs. Horgan remained ever upbeat and sunny, and her enormous supply of pink Canada Mints—which she called “Happy Pills” and were dispensed as the surest of remedies—made the tears of campers vanish. Throughout the ages she was a great and loyal friend to Alba, regularly visiting her when Alba was bedridden. She would sit with her for hours, chatting away, bringing a smile to Alba’s face.

Her legacy lives on through her grown children and grandchildren, most of whom have been associated with Sewataro in every possible way, including Monica McCann’s current leadership.
